After a generally-meh week in Martha's Vineyard, we took advantage of a weather window and headed up to Provincetown for the weekend to explore. It turns out to be a great little town, full of character -- very similar feeling in a lot of ways to a smaller Key West, but even more flamboyant.

The mooring fields and marinas are pretty absurdly expensive here, but fortunately there's reasonably-protected anchoring if you're willing to anchor in 50-70ft of water (we are, we have the ground tackle for it). So, we set up a little over a mile from town across the bay, protecting ourselves from the anticipated prevailing SW winds for the weekend and dinghied back and forth once a day for the weekend, utilizing the free town dinghy dock (that was packed).

.

All in all, we had a lovely weekend here. We had our standard spicy/moist dinghy ride across the bay when the wind picked up Saturday evening, we had 2 great meals in town, we shopped in way more quaint and reasonably-priced shops than MV, played lots of Hanabi in shaded outdoor bars drinking cocktails, and just missed seeing Kamala Harris speaking at a fundraiser the night before Biden dropped out.

One of the highlights was definitely going up to the Pilgrim Monument and Museum. There's a huge spire that's built up on a hill in the center of town that's a monument to the original pilgrims of the region -- the pilgrims landed here before they later moved onto found Plymouth, MA. The museum at the base was a really interesting, though eclectic, museum of information about the native tribes of the area, early colonial times, civil war era history, and even the modern era as Provincetown evolved to be an LGBTQ safe haven. The tower itself was a slog of a climb up, but the views from the top were lovely -- you can see the entire tip of the cape and way down the eastern side. The northern part of the cape is mostly swampland/dunes, which shows stark contrast to the civilized southern part of the tip. It was a really good stop.

It was a whirlwind weekend, since we arrived midday Saturday and left Monday morning, but it's a great spot to stop at, and we may give it another go on the way back south later this year, if timing/weather allows. Hopefully we can time it to see some shows on the next pass through!
